DDA Lift Installation Requirements
Why DDA Lift Installation Matters
Many DDA and CGHS flats across Delhi were constructed before lifts were a standard feature. With aging residents, mobility concerns, and increasing need for convenience, installing a lift has become more than a luxury—it’s a necessity. However, installing a lift in a DDA building involves a number of regulatory, structural, and legal challenges.

At ShuttleSky Lifts, we specialize in hassle-free, regulation-compliant lift installations—right from documentation and approvals to execution and maintenance.
Step 1: Getting the Required Approvals
1. Consent from Residents:
To begin the process, a minimum of 50% of the residents (excluding ground floor) in that specific staircase must give written consent for lift installation. Although not mandatory, ground-floor consent is highly recommended to avoid future objections.
2. Required Documents:
Applicants must prepare and submit:
- List of consenting residents
- Ownership proofs of each consenting resident
- Architect’s plan and elevation drawing
- Structural safety certificate by a registered structural engineer
- Fire and electrical clearance
- Indemnity bond and affidavit stating the installation doesn’t involve unauthorized construction
- Processing fee via demand draft
3. Submission:
All documents must be submitted to the relevant DDA zonal office or municipal body. Once the application is found complete, the NOC is usually granted within 45 days.
4. Additional Clearances:
For areas now under municipal control (MCD/SDMC), post-DDA NOC, a copy of the approved drawings must be submitted for final approval.
Step 2: Technical and Structural Planning
Independent Shaft Design:
The lift shaft must be a free-standing, self-supported structure. It should not be anchored to the existing building walls. A minimum pit depth of 1.5 meters is required.
Structural Safety Certification:
A registered structural engineer must certify that the lift installation will not impact the building’s structural integrity.
Ventilation and Lighting:
Proper ventilation and lighting provisions inside the lift and shaft must be ensured as per national building codes.
Step 3: Safety and Equipment Standards
ShuttleSky Lifts ensures all lift installations meet the most stringent safety standards. Our lifts are equipped with:
- Minimum Capacity: 4 passengers or 272 kg
- Design Life: Built to last for at least 15 years
- Automatic Rescue Device (ARD): Ensures passenger safety during power cuts by safely bringing the lift to the nearest floor
- Door Interlocking System: Prevents lift movement unless all doors are securely locked
- Infrared Door Sensors: Prevents door closure when an obstruction is detected
- Emergency Features: Includes lights, buzzers, intercom, and battery backup for alarms
We also offer smart, IoT-enabled monitoring systems for real-time performance checks, maintenance alerts, and fault detection.
Step 4: Licensing and Legal Formalities
Inspection by Authorities:
Post-installation, the lift must be inspected by the authorized lift inspector from the concerned authority to ensure compliance with safety and construction norms.
Lift Operation License:
Once approved, a license (Form C) is issued. It must be renewed every year. Form B is used for applying or renewing this license.
Regular Testing and Maintenance:
Periodic testing of lift components like brakes, governor speed, safety gears, and power systems is mandatory to retain operational licenses.
