The lift rules and regulations of Delhi are not much different from that of Bombay.

 Home lift

However, several states of India do not have well-defined rules and regulations for the lift instalment and the related scenarios.

As a result, there is often ambiguity about the legal aspects of installing lifts in a building.

These days it is common to have lifts in the homes or places having more than 3 floors. If there is some elder person in the house than it becomes vital to have the lifts installed.

As there are not clear lift rules and regulations in various states, the contractor easily cheats the client by using some false means and that later creates a lot of problems for the lift owner.

There are some strict lift rules and regulations mentioned under the “Elevator and Lift Act 2002”.

This Act clearly states that no person shall construct, install alter, repair, maintain, service, inspect, examine or test an elevating device unless the person;

  1. 1.   Holds a certificate of competency issued under the Act “Elevator and Lift Act 2002”;
    or
  2. 2.   Is a mechanic in training under the supervision of a person who holds the certificate of competency?
Hence, you can’t just ask any random company to install the lift at your residence or building. You must follow the lift rules and regulations mentioned under the “Lift Act” to prevent any legal troubles.

What are the approvals required for lift installation?

There are various lift rules and regulations that one must follow under various parameters to get the lift installed. The owner of the complex/building/project has to apply to the government for a license to install and a license to use a lift.

The License approval is dependent on some important factors in which the major one includes including whether the lift is being installed and maintained by an authorized contractor.

Also, the validity of both licenses differs from state to state.

Currently, only ten states issue these licenses: Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Assam, West Bengal, Delhi, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh.

Once this process is done, the government officials do some post-installation tests to ensure the complete safety of the users.

Once these approvals are granted under the Lift rules and regulations, the owner needs to get the elevator installed by a manufacturer of the elevator or a person who is a certified ‘Company of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers’ in the State.

After the successful installation and commissioning of the lift, the equipment is inspected by the lift inspector following the provision of the lift rules in force within the State.

After all these formalities, the lift license is issued and the owner of the building is entitled to operate the lift on the premises.

Further, the lift is subjected to the annual renewal of a license as may be required under the lift rules of that specific State.

Best Company to Contact For A Hassle-Free Lift Instalment

The lift rules and regulations under the “Lift Act” lacks consistency due to the absence of central law and most of the contractors misuse the information to trick people which causes them the problem at a later stage.

Industry bodies like the Bureau of Indian Standards are trying to change this by driving mandatory safety standards for the elevator and escalator industry and seeking cooperation from the states. But is there any company that will get you the lifts made up with IoT Technology and do all the legal formalities for you?

Yes, fortunately, there is!

Shuttlesky is the first lift manufacturing company in India that uses IoT in Lifts. IoT (Internet of Things) is a computer communication system and a digital machine that can easily transfer data from one network to another without the need for a computer or human communication.

Also, to get the NOC for DDA flats, the lift should be installed in a manner that the stability of the existing structure is not affected and no weight is transferred on to the current structure.

This lift permission process sounds easy but in reality, it is damn complex.

Shuttlesky is a DDA compliant local body and hence it has power and resources to help in taking lift permission in DDA flats in Delhi as well as getting NOC for the DDA lift installation by maintaining and following all the lift rules and regulations.
